The emergence of renewable energy epicentres in WA

Western Australia with its natural access to wind, waves and sun is emerging as a national leader in renewable energy.

WA is in a prime position to build cleaner and cheaper renewable power and is now taking advantage of the technological advances happening in the energy sector. 
 

Western Australia is in a prime position to build cleaner and cheaper renewable power and is now taking advantage of the technological advances happening in the energy sector.

Here are a few examples of renewable energy projects happening in the state.

#1. Electricity Network Project - 60 Stand-alone Power Systems
The Stand-alone Power Systems (SPS) project will involve up to 60 locations in regional areas in WA. Western Power, the operator, has commenced an open tender procurement process for the demonstration project. There are opportunities within supplying, installation, commission, operation and maintenance as a single operator or as part of a partnership or consortium. For more information click here.  

#2. Northam Solar Farm project
The Northam Solar Farm project will be developed by Carnegie Clean Energy in partnership with Indigenous Business Australia and Bookitja.

The 10-megawatt project is expected to generate enough power for 3,000 households over the next 25 years.

#3. Emu Downs Solar Farm
The Emu Downs solar farm, 200 kilometres north of Perth, will produce enough energy to power 6,700 homes within the South West Interconnected System network.
The $50 million project consists of 75,168 solar panels on about 70 hectares.

#4. Kalbarri’s Renewable Microgrid
Carnegie Clean Energy, through Energy Made Clean, has in a joint venture with Lendlease been awarded a $6.8 million contract to operate Western Power's microgrid project in Kalbarri in WA.

The five-megawatt microgrid will improve reliability for businesses, local residents and holiday-makers and remove the vast majority of unplanned outages affecting the tourist hot spot Kalbarri. 

A key part of the microgrid design will be a utility-scale 4.5 megawatt hour (MWh) battery with a minimum of 2MWh that is accessible at any time for reliability back-up services.
