A place to trade:the engine room of Australia’s economy
Western Australia has an export-oriented economy specialising in minerals, oil and gas and agriculture. The capital city, Perth, is a global resources hub that supports Western Australia’s resources industry with a growing mining and petroleum equipment and technology services industry.
Overview
The State accounted for more than 40% of Australia’s merchandise exports in 2015, including large shares of national exports to China, representing 67% of total Australian exports, Japan (42%) and Korea (40%).
China was the State’s largest export market in 2015, accounting for A$54.1billion, which was 53% of total exports, followed by Japan A$16.7billion, 16%.
Likewise in the agricultural sector the main export markets are in Asia.
Our trade focus is to promote the introduction of Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS); energy-related Petroleum Equipment, Technology and Services (PETS) and specialist agri-food and wine products and services into the European market.
