Western Australia is responsible for producing just under 5 per cent of the total wine produced in Australia but accounts for approximately 20 per cent of the ultra-premium market. On 4 October a selection of fine wine from some of WA’s nine fantastic wine regions are up on show at our popular WA Wine Tasting event in London. Click here for the full list of the 34 wineries on stage.
The United Kingdom is Western Australia’s second biggest market by aggregated volume and value (after China) and importantly, is a good market for white wine styles (unlike China).
In contrast to all of Australia, the average price per litre achieved by WA in the UK is rather high ($8.95 v $3.87). Whereas a lot of Australian bulk wine comes into to the UK for the Tesco and other supermarket trade, WA largely sells as regionally branded and bottled product.
