Aberdeen – Perth Gateway

Partnerships and collaboration were the themes for the 5th edition of the Perth Aberdeen Gateway.

Back after a two-year hiatus, opportunities for both Perth and Aberdeen were strongly aligned.

Underpinned by common values, strengths and ambitions, Gateway conversations focused on how both Perth and Aberdeen can support each other and prepare their respective economies for the net-zero world.

Speaking at the formal Perth-Aberdeen Gateway luncheon, Western Australian Agent General Mr John Langoulant AO emphasised opportunities for collaboration in areas including; decommissioning of oil and gas assets approaching end of life, the central role of higher education and vocational partnerships in ensuring local businesses have the skills to capitalise on new opportunities and the importance of the UK-Australia FTA in driving future partnership opportunities.

The message could not have been clearer businesses, government and education institutions must work in lockstep to ensure opportunities are realised and no one is left behind.

The luncheon, which coincided with the Perth edition of the Australian Hydrogen Conference, provided Mr Langoulant with the opportunity to highlight a range of announcements made by outgoing Western Australian Minister for Hydrogen Industry, the Honourable Alannah MacTiernan MLC.

These announcements focused on paving the way for green energy projects in WA, including a $22.5 million (£12.5 million) investment to reduce critical approval timeframes for green energy projects and ensure the local regulatory environment can effectively support these projects.

The discussions also provided an opportunity to promote the AOG conference which will be held in March in Perth.

Both the Deputy Premier of Western Australia and the Lord Mayor of Perth were able to present their invitations to the meeting participants to visit Perth next year and participate in another memorable conference on critical energy issues.

Hosted by Granite PR and held in association with The Government of Western Australia (WAGO), the Aberdeen-Perth WA Gateway has been held in Aberdeen since 2016.
