Defence delegations visit Europe

Western Australian companies visit key defence trade shows in United Kingdom and France.

Carolyn Gallop by Carolyn Gallop,

Since our last newsletter, there have been two major trade shows supported by the London  office.  Firstly in April, the annual Undersea, Defence Technology (UDT) exposition was held in London.  UDT is the largest global event dedicated to undersea defence technology and rotates around different UK and European cities – next year it will be held in Oslo, Norway (25-27 March 2025).  The Team Defence Australia (TDA) stand led by Commodore Guy Holthouse (originally from WA but now currently based in Canberra) hosted three WA companies:  Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems; Matrix Engineering & Composites and Calytrix.

Secondly in June, Carolyn Gallop attended  Eurosatory in Paris. This Defence show is held every two years where again TDA hosted a stand for Australian companies including Blacktree Technology and Critical Infrastructure Technologies from WA.  Both expos provided WA companies with excellent opportunities to engage with UK and European prime defence companies and also connect with other fellow exhibitors from all over the world in order to expand in this ever-growing market.

The continuing tensions in the world means that UK and European governments are increasing their defence spend as a proportion of GDP.  Defence primes are looking more and more towards Australia to help improve supply chain resilience and provide innovative technologies to enhance capabilities.
