It is unfortunate that, yet again, we are unable to meet in person to celebrate Western Australia Day. Our Governor, the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, has prepared a short video message, to join us in wishing the many West Australians living overseas, a happy WA Day .
Happy Western Australia Day!
For those of us who call ourselves Western Australian but are living overseas, WA Day holds special importance as it gives us a chance to reflect on Western Australia as an outsider looking in. For me, I am proud to represent Western Australia in the UK, Europe and Israel, as I see a state that is genuinely community-minded, conscious of our need to protect and preserve our environment and the biodiversity we have inherited from previous generations, and is prepared to look for innovative solutions to the problems and challenges of our time.
Our Governor, the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, has very kindly prepared a short video message for us which you can watch below. He, like me, shares a passion for WA and recognises both the traditional inhabitants of our land and the much more recent settlers from Europe and other places. Our wish is that we draw on the advantages that this multi-ethnic culture offers us, rather than look for our differences.
It is unfortunate that, yet again, we are unable to meet in person to celebrate WA Day. I am particularly disappointed as this will be the last time I would have been able join you as my term as Agent General draws to a close. Thank you for your friendship and support during my tenure. I will always look back on my time in London with fondness and affection for the many wonderful people I have got to know, and the generous support you have shown me and my family. I am sure you will show my successor the same warm welcome you gave me.
My wife, Jenny, joins me in wishing you a safe and enjoyable WA Day and all the best for the future.
