The Western Australian Government Office in the United Kingdom and Europe (WAGO) welcomed the opportunity to support His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Mrs Dawson and the Governor’s Official Secretary during their visit to the region. The centrepiece of the visit was the receival of the Governor by His Majesty King Charles III, an opportunity afforded to each Governor following their appointment as the vice-regal representative within their respective region.

The WAGO facilitated a program of activities for the Governor and Mrs Dawson centred around the Governor’s strategic priorities.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson undertook official engagement activities through the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland. These activities included meeting with amongst others; the Australian High Commissioner, the UK Government Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing, together with the Royal Foundation for Early Childhood.

A particular highlight for the WAGO Office ws the hosting of a reception for WA alumni within Australia House which provided an opportunity to discuss each other’s connections to Western Australia. On show at the cocktail reception were four pieces of Aboriginal art from the Western Desert region in the Kimberley. Guests valued the opportunity to engage with these pieces of artwork and understand the stories being told through the artwork displayed.

As the Governor and Mrs Dawson embarked on their journey into Europe, Ms Sally Janssen joined business and diplomatic activities in Switzerland and Germany. The Australian Ambassador to Germany, HE Philip Green and the Australian Ambassador to Switzerland, HE Elizabeth Day kindly hosted business focussed functions and provided an opportunity for the Governor to promote the capabilities of Western Australia through these forums, including in support of investment and trade outcomes.

The capabilities of Western Australia’s viticulture sector were on show at Prowein in Dusseldorf. The Governor and Mrs Dawson visited WA producers on the Wine Australia Stand at Prowein and learnt about their plans for expanding into the European markets.

WAGO looks forward to advancing the relationships established and harnessed through the Governor’s visit to the region and looks forward to welcoming the Governor back to the region in due course.
