Western Australia home for Australia’s first nuclear-powered submarines

Western Australia will continue its tradition as the home of Australian submarines with the $8 billion investment by the Australian Government to expand HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, creating around 3,000 direct jobs.

Forward basing and rotation of US and UK nuclear submarines will create an additional 500 jobs with flow on effects for the wider WA economy.

Growing Western Australia’s defence industry is an enormous opportunity to diversify our economy and build the workforce of the future.
