WA Trade Delegation visit to London Tech Week
The heat was on in London for London Tech Week as an outstanding delegation from Western Australia descended on London. Each delegate presented a unique and innovative product and offering across a broad range of sectors. With a mission to learn all about entering and scaling a tech business in the United Kingdom, the delegates learnt about the fundamentals of entering the UK market, including opportunities under the Free Trade Agreement, raising capital, legal requirements and considerations surrounding recruitment and employment.
Networking opportunities were in abundance and the delegates thrived in establishing new connections over the course of the week. As part of their sponsored program, delegates were provided with business matching services which saw many meetings organised over the course of the week with potential investors and possible clients within the United Kingdom and we look forward to following the outcomes of these discussions.
The anchor event was hosted at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster and presented a stellar line up, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who formally opened the event and shared insights around the UK’s leadership in promoting technology and innovation as a means of growing and strengthening the economy, and transforming the lives of citizens across the nation and the world.
Delegates also heard from Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, on the unrivalled opportunities for tech innovators, investors and business leaders in London.
As part of London Tech week, in a separate venue at Tobacco Dock in East London, the seventh AI Summit was held presenting emerging technology from AI, Quantum and Cyber specialist companies. There were many interesting talks and demonstrations including hackathons and deep dives into cutting-edge technology.
With the State’s Innovation Strategy released in early 2023, Western Australia has a clear ten-year vision to be a renowned global hub of invention, investment, innovation and impact. The Strategy’s goal is to inspire a new generation of innovators to solve our challenges and encourage the economy to move in exciting, new directions. Missions such as our London Tech Week delegation play a critical role as leaders and ambassadors for Western Australia’s tech and innovation ecosystem both on the global stage and in inspiring further growth in the sector within the State.
